Today we discussed the origin of the word ‘advent’ whilst discussing the celebrations of Christmas and how Christians prepare for the season whilst looking forward to Christ's second coming. As a class we discussed the following scripture:

Be on your guard, then, because you do not know what day your Lord will come.

Matthew 24:42

So then, you must always be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.

Matthew 24:44

We thought about what Christians should be doing to prepare for Christ's second coming and whether this preparation should only be happening during advent or all year round. To deepen our understanding of Advent, we made wreaths and looked at the symbolism of each aspect.
